Making an account, joining a club, and getting your first game.
How do I sign up?+
Two ways in. On the web, go to frienemi.com and create an account. On a phone, install Frienemi from the App Store or Google Play. Either way you give a display name, an email and a password (at least 8 characters, with one capital and one number). The app also asks for your birth year — you need to be at least 17. Or use Google, Facebook, or Sign in with Apple on iOS. If you signed up with an email and password, we send a 6-digit code to that address and you can't get past it — verifying is mandatory, not a step you can skip and come back to. Social sign-ins arrive already verified. Once you're in, the app opens on the Clubs tab.
Do I need an invite to join?+
No. Signing up is open to anyone, and you can browse clubs and their public sessions without an account at all. Individual clubs are a different matter. Some let anyone in on request; others hold your request until an owner or admin approves it, and a club can set a rating range that decides who it will accept. If a club turns you down, that is the club's setting, not an account problem.
Where does my starting rating come from if I've never played?+
We ask the first time you actually need one — the first time you join a match or a club in a sport you haven't played here yet. A sheet asks for your level: Beginner, Casual, Intermediate, Advanced, or Expert. That seeds your rating and you go straight on to whatever you were doing. For tennis, you can instead paste your UTR Sports profile link and we'll read your singles UTR from it. That path is more precise, so it starts you with less uncertainty than a picked level does. It's asked once per sport, and it only sets your starting point — from there, results move your rating.
How do I find my first game?+
Start at Clubs. A club's page lists its upcoming sessions, and joining one is the shortest path to a game with people who are expecting you. Some sessions you can join outright; some go to the host for approval. Away from a club, the + button opens Create. Create Event → Create Match posts a match: either a Specific Match aimed at one player you name, or an Open Post that advertises the suburbs and rough times you're free and lets people propose a time and court back to you. Play Now is the fastest option when you're already at the court with someone. One of you shows a QR code, the other scans it, you pick a sport, and you keep score in the app.
Which sports does Frienemi cover?+
Tennis, badminton, padel, pickleball, squash and table tennis. Your rating is per sport — a squash result never moves your tennis number. The first time you play a new one, you'll get the level sheet again for that sport.
