Delete your account & data

Three ways to do it, and exactly what happens to your data.

In the app (fastest)

1. Open Frienemi and go to the Profile tab. 2. Tap the gear icon to open Settings. 3. Open the Danger Zone section at the bottom — it is collapsed by default — and tap Delete Account. 4. Confirm when prompted. Deletion happens immediately, in one go. You do not need to contact us.

On the web

Sign in at app.frienemi.com, open Settings, and use Delete account under Danger zone. Same result as the app — it is the same account and the same request.

By email

Email privacy@frienemi.com from the address on your Frienemi account and ask us to delete it. Write from the account's own email address so we can confirm the request is yours; if you cannot, tell us your display name and we will verify another way. We aim to respond within 30 days, and in practice much sooner.

Two things you may have to sort out first

The app will refuse, and tell you which of these it is, rather than delete something you did not mean to. If you own a club. Transfer ownership or delete the club first. The app lists the clubs blocking deletion so you know which ones. A club losing its owner would strand its members. If a card is still being charged. Cancel the membership first, in the club it belongs to. The app lists which clubs. We refuse rather than cancel it for you on purpose: cancelling is a money action, and if Stripe were unreachable at that moment we would have deleted your account while the charge carried on — the exact thing this refusal exists to prevent. A comped membership, a membership you paid in cash, a one-off payment and a subscription already set to end all pass; nothing further will be charged for any of them.

What gets deleted

Removed outright: - your display name, username, bio and profile photo (the photo file is deleted from storage too) - your sign-in sessions, and the links between your account and Google, Apple and Facebook - your push notification tokens and your notifications - your friend connections and any pending friend requests - the messages you sent in match chats, direct messages, group chats and support conversations, and the copy of your last message that sits on the conversation row - your posts, comments and likes - your member and student verification records — the verified address, the member or student number, any code you had outstanding, and the record that a credential was going stale Your email address is not left on the account. It is replaced with an internal placeholder that belongs to nobody, so the address is free for you to sign up again with later.

What is kept, and why

Anonymised rather than removed: the matches and sessions you played, their scores, and the rating history attached to them. A match has two players, and deleting one side's record would silently rewrite the other player's results and ranking. Your name is replaced with "Deleted user" and nothing in those records points back to you. Club chat. Messages in a club's group chat are not deleted. A club chat is a shared room with its own history, and removing one person's lines from it is a club decision rather than ours. If you want yours gone, ask the club. Club and group membership history. Your membership rows are marked as having ended rather than erased, so the club's own history of who was a member and when stays intact. The row no longer names you.

Payments

Payment records are kept. We cannot delete them and we would not be allowed to. A payment record is the fact that money moved: the amount, the currency, what it was for, the date, whether it was refunded, the commission we took, and Stripe's reference numbers for the transaction. It is a financial record for us and for the club, it is what a chargeback months later is answered with, and it is what a tax return is built from. What it does not contain is you. Your card number was never in it — card details go to Stripe and never reach us. After deletion, the record points at an anonymised account rather than a named person. The same is true of the access those payments bought — the record that a membership or a session pass existed, and for how long.

Third-party sign-in

Deleting your Frienemi account also removes the link between it and Google, Apple or Facebook. Nothing needs to be done on their side, and nothing is left behind here. You can also revoke Frienemi's access from those services directly — Facebook under Settings › Apps and Websites, Apple under Settings › Apple Account › Sign in with Apple, Google at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Revoking access stops future sign-ins but does not by itself delete your Frienemi account; use one of the routes above for that.

Backups

Backups are kept on a rolling schedule. A backup taken before you deleted your account still contains what it contained at the time, until it rolls off. We do not restore a backup to undo a deletion.
